150: The Truth About Psychedelics the Media Won’t Tell You- Satire Approach with Dennis Walker
Satire as a Vehicle for Truth: A Conversation with Dennis Walker
Welcome to this week’s episode of Flora Funga Podcast with your host, KK! This week, we’re diving into the world of satire, media, and psychedelics with the one and only Dennis Walker. If you haven’t followed him yet, now’s the time—he’s a journalist, podcaster, and puppeteer, best known for satirizing the psychedelic space. As the founder and host of Mycopreneur Podcast, Dennis has interviewed over 200 mushroom entrepreneurs from 40+ countries across six continents. His work has been featured in Rolling Stone, Forbes, High Times, Wired, and many other international outlets.
Why Satire Works in Today’s Media Landscape
Dennis has a degree in media studies, which gave him an inside look at how information is created and distributed. One of the first things he learned? Media is a product—constructed with an end goal, often driven by profit incentives. In a world where truth is increasingly difficult to pin down, satire has emerged as a powerful tool for cutting through the noise.
“Satire allows you to artfully, artistically, and creatively BS people while actually revealing deeper truths. You can be intentionally over-the-top, and that exaggeration makes it easier to spot what’s really going on.” – Dennis Walker
Diving into Psychedelics, Media, and Entrepreneurship
In this episode, Dennis shares how he got into mushrooms and why he chose satire as his primary mode of storytelling. We also explore:
The evolution of his Mycopreneur Podcast
Why real mushrooms (as a brand and a concept) matter
The challenges and opportunities in the psychedelic industry
Other mushroom-related products we both love
If you're curious about the intersections of media, psychedelics, and humor, you won’t want to miss this conversation!
Join the Incubator!
Dennis also runs an Incubator every Thursday at 4:00 p.m. EST, where he brings together mushroom entrepreneurs and enthusiasts. Many of the guests I’ve interviewed on Flora Funga also participate, so it’s a fantastic way to connect with the community. Sign up for his newsletter to get access to these sessions—links are below!
YouTube Comment of the Week
Since this episode is already pushing boundaries, I wanted to share a wild YouTube comment from Tim DV 1yi:
“I did meditation and managed to go back in time and then got slapped back to my reality by that testicle. But when I woke up, I had a slap on my face—happened twice during two meditations.”
Tim, I hope you and your testicle are okay. Thanks for commenting, and keep the psychedelic experiences coming!
