Nominations for 2024: Top Mycologists to Follow

Exciting news—2024 nominations for the top mycologists are underway! I’ve already received a few submissions, and I’m still accepting more. Some of the categories include:

  • Top Taxonomist

  • Top Fungal DNA Sequencer

  • Best Mushroom Product

  • Top Fungal Activist

  • Top Satirical Mycologist

  • Most Likely to Survive Naked and Afraid

If you have any favorite mycologists or think there’s a category I’ve missed (some people have suggested “Highest Vibration” or “Most Informative”), let me know! I’ll be announcing the winners early next year, so keep those nominations coming.

Upcoming Mushroom Product Review

I’ve also been busy working on mushroom product reviews, and I’m really excited about this one. Big shout-out to Kevin, who is helping me break down the unique ingredients from a chemist’s perspective. Expect a thorough review on my YouTube channel, so make sure you subscribe to Flora Funga Podcast on YouTube for all the updates.

Holiday Foraging Gift Baskets

The holidays are coming up, and I’m thrilled to announce our special Foraging Gift Baskets! These bundles will include everything you need for a mushroom foraging adventure:

  • Foraging bags

  • A blacklight flashlight

  • A mushroom knife and brush

  • A mushroom collecting box

  • An ID guide and a handheld microscope

This bundle is perfect for fungi lovers and nature enthusiasts alike—stay tuned for their release!

Tinctures and Dog-Friendly Mushroom Products

In addition to the gift baskets, I’ll be offering mushroom tinctures that contain a blend of chaga, reishi, and lion’s mane mushrooms—perfect for boosting your wellness routine. Also, I’m launching a new line of dog-friendly tinctures to help with anxiety, pain, and overall well-being. My dog, Toast, loves it, especially during Florida’s stormy season. If you have a stressed or anxious dog, this might be just what you need!

JUICY News: Cordyceps and Athletic Performance

This week’s juicy news is all about Cordyceps sinensis and how it affects athletic performance. In a recent study, marathon runners were given Cordyceps or a placebo for 12 weeks. The results? Those who took the Cordyceps had a lower heart rate and improved performance in a 5K race after 12 weeks. It’s exciting to see scientific backing for what many athletes already believe: Cordyceps can enhance endurance and energy levels.

Mushroom Festivals and More

I’ve got a packed schedule for the next few weeks, attending three mushroom festivals! I’ll be in Georgia this weekend for the Georgia Mushroom Festival, then off to Oklahoma for the Oklahoma Fungi Festival, and finally heading to Washington for the Olympic Peninsula Mushroom Festival. I’m especially excited to moderate the panel on “Women in Mycology” at the Washington festival. If you’re attending any of these, let’s connect!

Merch Drop: Cult of Decay Hoodies: NEW ITEMS on my website!

As we move into the colder months, I’ve got the perfect merch for you. Check out our Cult of Decay hoodies—they feature two plants and two fungi and are perfect for cozying up as the weather cools. Grab one for yourself or as a gift for the fungi lovers in your life.

That wraps up this week’s bonus episode. Stay tuned for more interviews and exciting updates in the coming weeks. And remember, stay curious and keep learning!

Have a great week, scientists—go learn something new today!

I have 80 countries to go! Let me know where you're listening from.
